3D Geopolitics

by DAVID BROWN | CLEARNFO.com | July 29, 2015

Another chess piece moved (Iran) by the U.S. in the Geopolitical game to constrain Russia and China… at this point it looks like a masterful move by the Obama Administration. This is an example of what James Corbett calls, 3D chess (geopolitics)  whereby most people are focused on a 2D chess game, whilst the oligarchs play 3D. After all, the oligarchs have more in common (to maintain and increase their power) with each other than they do with their respective citizens.

Making Sense of the Iran Nuclear Deal: Geopolitical Implications

With US Sanctions biting into the Russian economy and China’s stock market faltering, what will be the impact on the New Silk Road Infrastructure plans?  While the rigged stock markets are good at pushing paper for the benefit of the few, they are no longer used to allocate resources based on real underlying economic dynamics.  I’m assuming the new silk road plans will continue despite China’s huge losses in the stock market; since after all, the new silk road represents real economic growth potential, unlike the rigged Casino we call the stock market.

Screwing the Pooch

by DAVID BROWN | CLEARNFO.com | July 28, 2015

eyes-14660_640Did the U.S. Screw the Pooch by its bloody warmongering across the Middle East, North Africa and Ukraine?  Despite millions of casualties, the U.S. has not succeeded in intimidating Russia or China but rather put them both on high alert.  Interesting that after the failed U.S. putsch to install U.S.-backed Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, former U.S. ally Egypt is now also fully awake to the ‘Realpolitik’ tactics of the Empire of Chaos.  Who –other than the U.S. Media– could miss the mass-murder and suffering created by the U.S. slogging its way through the Middle East and North Africa, destabilizing and wrecking Libya, Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan; none of whom are national security threats and have done nothing to threaten the U.S. in any way.  And now a pivot to Asia?  What madness!  Russia and China wanted to be arms-length partners with the U.S. but U.S. military planners would have none of it. Now the U.S. has driven these two former rivals closer together to build a financial and security counterbalance against murderous U.S. global hegemony. The NWO must be crapping in their pants. We live in interesting times. Russia, China and others realize that the NWO represents an existential threat to the idea of the ‘Nation-State’ and to most of humanity; including the American people. Most Americans have yet to wake up to see who their real enemies are; hint: It’s not Russia or China. According to Catherine Austin Fitts, the Western Banks have stolen at least $40 trillion from their citizens, so these money masters still have plenty of juice to cause some global havoc advancing their mission. While Americans struggle under the tyranny emanating daily from their masters in D.C., will they finally wake from their slumber in time to identify the real villains in this geopolitical drama for world domination? Americans have been robbed, raped, pillaged and plundered, yet they remain loyal to the illusion that their vote still actually counts and America is a beacon of freedom for the world. Even after the U.S. Congress handed over the keys to America’s sovereignty to international bankers and corporations (all done in secret) with TPP, Americans are none the wiser. This soft coup d’état of America has already taken place, yet Americans still live clueless in their walled-garden of propaganda constructed by their masters.

In the article below, Pepe Escobar details Russia and China’s reaction to U.S. aggression, driven by a rabid U.S. desire for ‘Full Spectrum Dominance’.  If Russia and China are successful, this does not bode well for the masters of the Angelo-American Establishment who use America as a military enforcement appliance.

12 Dictators, Tyrants And Terrorist Groups Aided By The US Federal Government

Throughout the history of United States Foreign policy the U.S. Government has often justified or called for the invasion of another country by claiming the need to remove a dictator who was committing human rights abuses against his own people.

But what is not commonly known is that throughout that same history the U.S. Government also gave military and financial support to numerous tyrants and terrorists with the full knowledge and awareness that these groups were committing human rights abuses against their own people.

This is something the mainstream media in America will never talk about.

And while the media and the U.S. Government tells us that “terrorists hate us for our freedoms”, perhaps it’s much closer to the truth to say they hate us for propping up dictators around the world, who kill, torture, steal from and unjustly imprison their citizens.

Here is a partial list of some of the worst tyrants and dictators your tax dollars have aided and abetted over the years… Read full article at: 12 Dictators, Tyrants And Terrorist Groups Aided By The US Federal Government

COMMENT: “Again, as Quigley points out, the “power structure” that he exposed isn’t loyal to Communism, or Socialism, or Fascism, or capitalism. The Network is happy to exploit the rhetoric of any movement or ideology, prop up any dictator or tyrant, and support any economic or political model, provided it serves their one overarching aim. That aim, to bring “all the habitable portions of the world under their control,” is as old as the lust for power itself. The death and suffering that their policies have already caused in pursuit of this aim are incalculable. Allowing them to continue as they have will only bring more of the same.

–If there is one goal for this book, it is to expose the attitude and inherent nature of those who seek to dominate others. Don’t worry about remembering all of the dates and names that have been listed. Don’t worry about trying to recall all of the specific events. (All of that information will always be here if you need to find it again.) Instead, make it a point to simply verify the following: there is no lie that these men will not tell. There is no crime that they will not commit. The only measure of “right” and “wrong,” in their view, is whether their tactics succeed or fail. This might sound like hyperbole now, but by the end of this short book you will understand the truth of this assertion. (The Network’s game is won by those who calculate properly, and moral considerations only impede accurate calculation.)” —Tragedy and Hope 101

Car Cyber Attacks

by DAVID BROWN | CLEARNFO.com | July 27, 2015

Michael Hastings serveimageBy the very nature and fundamental design, the Internet is NOT secure and therefore you can never, ever guarantee your privacy. Add to this the denaturing and bastardization by the CIA and NSA of the existing attempts at security and the internet leaks like a sieve. These two evil twins have been caught red-handed putting backdoors into security software, thus enabling yet another pathway for hackers: mistakenly believing that the backdoors were for their exclusive use. Since there is no guarantee of security on the internet, it necessarily follows that there can be no iron-clad security concerning the matter of remotely controlled vehicles. Thus, when car manufactures claim that they have fixed certain security holes and that now you are safe, this is a bold-faced lie. Simple logic, folks. Get a clue. Just say no to being their trained Lemming, else wise if you get crosswise with the all mighty and powerful Federal Government, you might find yourselves in a brand new Mercedes rushing headlong into a tree.

In 2013, former U.S. National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Counter-terrorism Richard Clarke told The Huffington Post that what is known about the single-vehicle crash is “consistent with a car cyber attack.”

Clarke said, “There is reason to believe that intelligence agencies for major powers” — including the United States — know how to remotely seize control of a car.

“What has been revealed as a result of some research at universities is that it’s relatively easy to hack your way into the control system of a car, and to do such things as cause acceleration when the driver doesn’t want acceleration, to throw on the brakes when the driver doesn’t want the brakes on, to launch an air bag,” Clarke told The Huffington Post. “You can do some really highly destructive things now, through hacking a car, and it’s not that hard.”

“So if there were a cyber attack on the car — and I’m not saying there was,” Clarke added, “I think whoever did it would probably get away with it.”

Dr. Paul Craig Roberts : On the So-Called “Greek Debt Crisis”

by DAVID BROWN | CLEARNFO.com | July 26, 2015

David Brown

David Brown

If you understand how the money powers use USAID, IMF the World Bank and other financial orgs to transfer ownership of real assets on the cheap, you will recognize these same techniques being used on Greece today. This is commonly known as ‘Asset-Striping’ a country by those who do this for a living. PCR (Paul Craig Roberts) recently did an excellent breakdown on this in an interview on The Mind Renewed by Dr. Julian Charles. Below, I have broken down the steps used in 3rd – World nations in Latin America and other regions of the globe. Why is this important? Well, this is what is being done to Greece and what is in store for any other members of the EU who get out of line; and it must be noted that the USA is not immune.

ASSET-STRIPPING Sovereign Nations, by the books:

1. Country “X” is identified as being financially weak, yet has valuable assets like natural resources or has geopolitical value
2. Country “X” is then targeted by the USAID, IMF & World Bank for loans.
3. Representatives are sent into Country “X” to do studies to prove up (by exaggerated estimates) what this or that infrastructure will do for the economy of Country “X”.
4. This inflated estimate for money is then included as part of a loan request to the bank. This is the cover.
5. Loan is committed
6. Heads of State of Country “X” siphon off much of the money to private bank accounts
7. Most of the work for the infrastructure improvements goes to well-connected multinational corporations not to local companies.
8. Country “X” cannot pay loan back
9. Bank offers additional money to help Country “X” if they will implement “austerity measures” which effectively puts the bankers in charge of running the country.
10. Country “X”, still cannot make payments on loan.
11. Bank takes control of assets and natural resources of Country “X”
12. Bank sells assets, natural resources of Country “X” or provides monopolies to multinational corporations at pennies on the dollar, which still does not satisfy the debt.
NOTE: Much of this is coordinated with the help of the US, CIA, NATO and the EU. If Country “X” will not go along with the loan, then Operation Gladio or a ‘Color Revolution’ is implemented to destabilize Country “X” for regime change.

Dr. Paul Craig Roberts : On the So-Called “Greek Debt Crisis
Published on Friday, 24 July 2015 13:37 by The Mind Renewed:

What is the so-called “Greek Debt Crisis”? Is it simply the result of economic mismanagement by the Greek people and their successive governments, or is there more to it than meets the eye?

Joining us to answer this question, we welcome once again Dr. Paul Craig Roberts (former US Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy), who explains that the crisis is not fundamentally about debt at all, but rather the playing out of a strategy by the financial and political elites to establish two main principles: the looting of European countries by the “One Percent”, and the systematic destruction of their national sovereignty.

We also discuss the Iran Nuclear Deal and the recent address by UK Prime Minister David Cameron on “extremism” (described by Glenn Greenwald as “one of the creepiest and most authoritarian speeches you’ll ever hear.”)

There are three things you can do: You can have war, you can have depopulation or you can have change. The voice you are hearing coming back from the BRICS, the voice you are hearing coming back from the Greek people is let’s try change. The IMF is saying . . . you know they have a point. Puerto Rico and Greece have rung that bell that says we have to create value in the real economy. You can’t eat it if you don’t grow it, and we can’t grow it if we are all engaged in disaster capitalism.”

pagetitle.img

Note: This essay was written between November 2005 and September 2006. New evidence has strengthened some of the original arguments and, as such, I’ve provided some updates throughout. If you’re in a hurry, I recommend you read “Part 1” and “Part 4.”

Part 1 – No Tinfoil Hat Required

For many years now, the mainstream media has played a key role in maintaining the government’s official account of 9/11. In all respects, it has done a brilliant job of filtering out everything that might undermine the government’s claims, while simultaneously demonizing anyone who dares to challenge those claims.

So let’s get right to it: Is it really baseless idiocy that drives people to question the official account of 9/11? Are the millions of Americans (including Senators, FBI agents, Doctors, Lawyers, Professors, Scientists, Engineers, etc.) all paranoid loons for suggesting we need a truly independent investigation of 9/11? The government and media would have you think so. They’d also (to help maintain that perception) need to keep you diverted from the information you’re about to read.

The truth is, for decades our government has been doing very nasty things that most Americans would never believe to be true. The truth is, the media has fed you a steady diet of meaningless news stories instead of sharing information that is vitally important to the future of this country. The truth is, if it wasn’t for the internet (which the media is now demonizing and the government is trying to get control of) most of us would have never known how badly our leaders have lied to us.

Let’s start with the main assertion:

“It is crazy to think corrupt elements within our government intentionally LET the attacks on 9/11 happen so they could be used as a pretext for war. Furthermore, it is even crazier to suggest corrupt elements might have actually facilitated the attacks.”

Now to be fair, I will admit it is utterly insane to intentionally provoke and allow an attack against one’s own country. I agree it is even more insane (and criminal) to facilitate such an attack; sacrificing innocent human beings so the “outrage” could be used as a pretext for an already-established military agenda. …Psychotic tyrants in other countries might resort to this type of “false flag” operation, but would our own government ever conspire to do the same? The answer might surprise you.

A hypothetical scenario:

Imagine if the President of the United States came on television and announced that Iraq had shot down a civilian airliner filled with American students on vacation. Imagine if there were no survivors, only grieving parents who had lost their children at the hands of a crazed and arrogant dictator. Imagine if all that remained of the plane and its crew was the frantic tape of its pilot’s final transmission: “Mayday, Mayday, we are being tailed by an Iraqi Fighter…we need help up here and fast…mayday, do you copy…” and then the sound of an explosion, screaming, then silence.

Now, imagine in the midst of the “outrage” and calls for Saddam’s head on a platter, some “idiot conspiracy theorist” stood up and said:

“It’s all a lie! Iraq is innocent of the charges against it!!! Our government was behind the whole thing! They loaded a civilian airliner with FAKE passengers, flew the plane to a secret location, unloaded the fake passengers and replaced the original plane with a remote-controlled drone that was painted up to look like the original. They then had a FAKE Iraqi Fighter Jet (it was really an American Fighter painted to LOOK LIKE an Iraqi Fighter) chase after the remote controlled drone. Then, they transmitted a FAKE “Mayday” signal from the drone just before blowing it up! It was all a set up so we could frame and attack Iraq!”

In the above hypothetical scenario, who would you be more likely to believe? The president (with the media backing him up) or the “crazy conspiracy theorist?”

Well, substitute “Iraq and Saddam” for “Cuba and Castro” and you’ve got The Northwood’s Document. The Northwood’s Document is an official United States government plan to provoke and allow attacks to be used as a pretext for invading Cuba. The plan goes further to suggest, if provocation does not work, we could “attack ourselves” and blame Cuba. It even speaks of completely fabricating an attack to be used as a pretext. President Kennedy rejected the plan just prior to being assassinated. Had he not, this plan would have led to war and the death of many thousands based on total lies. Even worse, it might have led to a nuclear exchange with Russia: millions dead, based on lies.

Here are some of the highlights from this now declassified document. I have “bolded” some words to add emphasis.

“Subject: Justification for US Military Intervention in Cuba”

“As requested by Chief of Operations, Cuba Project, the Joint Chiefs of Staff are to indicate brief but precise description of pretexts which they consider would provide justification for US military intervention in Cuba.”

“It is recognized that any action which becomes pretext for US military intervention in Cuba will lead to a political decision which then would lead to military action.”

“It is possible to create an incident which will demonstrate convincingly that a Cuban aircraft has attacked and shot down a chartered civil airliner enroute from the United States to Jamaica, Guatemala, Panama, or Venezuela. The destination would be chosen only to cause the flight plan route to cross Cuba. The passengers could be a group of college students off on a holiday or any grouping of persons with a common interest to support chartering a non-scheduled flight.

    a. An aircraft at Eglin Air Force Base would be painted and numbered as an exact duplicate for a civil registered aircraft belonging to a CIA proprietary organization in the Miami area. At a designated time, the duplicate would be substituted for the actual civil aircraft and would be loaded with selected passengers, all boarded under carefully prepared aliases. The actual registered aircraft would be converted to a drone.

    b. Take off times of the drone aircraft and the actual aircraft will be scheduled to allow a rendezvous south of Florida. From the rendezvous point the passenger-carrying aircraft will descend to minimum altitude and go directly into an auxiliary field at Eglin Air Force Base where arrangements will have been made to evacuate the passengers and return the aircraft to its original status. The drone aircraft meanwhile will continue to fly the filed flight plan. When over Cuba the drone will being transmitting on the international distress frequency a “May Day” message stating he is under attack by Cuban MIG aircraft. The transmission will be interrupted by destruction of the aircraft which will be triggered by radio signal. This will allow ICAO radio stations in the Western Hemisphere to tell the US what has happened to the aircraft instead of the US trying to “sell” the incident.”

 Other ideas suggested:

“We could blow up a US ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba.”

“Casualty lists in US newspapers would cause a helpful wave of national indignation.”

“We could develop a Communist Cuban Terror Campaign in the Miami area, in other Florida cities and even in Washington. The terror campaign could be pointed at Cuban Refugees seeking haven in the United States.”

“We could sink a boatload of Cubans enroute to Florida (real or simulated). We could foster attempts on lives of Cuban refugees in the United States even to the extent of wounding in instances to be widely publicized. Exploding a few plastic bombs in carefully chosen spots, the arrest of Cuban agents and the release of prepared documents substantiating Cuban involvement also would be helpful in projecting the idea of an irresponsible government.”

The Northwoods document (available at the National Security Archive) proves beyond any shadow of doubt that our government has openly conspired to completely MANUFACTURE a pretext for war. It also gives us an idea of how far the ruling elite are willing to go in order to deceive the American people–how far they are willing to go in order to get what they want.

Now, does this prove corrupt elements in our own government were in some way responsible for the attacks of 9/11? No, but it does irrefutably establish that it’s NOT crazy to suggest it’s possible. As a matter of fact, it proves a person must be ill-informed, delusional, or simply lying to suggest it isn’t possible.

Why Does The “War on Terror” Serve Western Policy?

By Jay Dyer | Monday, July 20, 2015

lawrence-of-arabia1

Peter O’Toole as British Intelligence agent, T.E. Lawrence

From Benghazi to Turkey, the ISIS “supply lines” are directly from NATO-controlled territory, and apparently it never occurs to the minds of western media to ask where, in fact, the so-called Islamic State obtains their arms.  The reason for this is obvious, as it would demonstrate that the Islamic State is not a homegrown, indigenous Wahhabist extremist group, but western creation, funded and aided like Al Qaeda since its inception, as Carter and Brzezinski openly discussed.  Not much has changed in the international terror theater since 1979, save the targets.  Counterpunch noted over a decade ago:

“Q: The former director of the CIA, Robert Gates, stated in his memoirs [“From the Shadows”], that American intelligence services began to aid the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan 6 months before the Soviet intervention. In this period you were the national security adviser to President Carter. You therefore played a role in this affair. Is that correct?

Brzezinski: Yes. According to the official version of history, CIA aid to the Mujahadeen began during 1980, that is to say, after the Soviet army invaded Afghanistan, 24 Dec 1979. But the reality, secretly guarded until now, is completely otherwise: Indeed, it was July 3, 1979 that President Carter signed the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul. And that very day, I wrote a note to the president in which I explained to him that in my opinion this aid was going to induce a Soviet military intervention.”

Concerning the aiding and funding of the updated Mujahideen-Al Qaeda-ISIS brand, Tony Cartalucci comments:

The London Telegraph would report in their 2013 article, “CIA ‘running arms smuggling team in Benghazi when consulate was attacked’,” that:

“[CNN] said that a CIA team was working in an annex near the consulate on a project to supply missiles from Libyan armouries to Syrian rebels.”

Weapons have also come from Eastern Europe, with the New York Times reporting in 2013 in their article, “Arms Airlift to Syria Rebels Expands, With Aid From C.I.A.,” that:

“From offices at secret locations, American intelligence officers have helped the Arab governments shop for weapons, including a large procurement from Croatia, and have vetted rebel commanders and groups to determine who should receive the weapons as they arrive, according to American officials speaking on the condition of anonymity.”

And while Western media sources continuously refer to ISIS and other factions operating under the banner of Al Qaeda as “rebels” or “moderates,” it is clear that if billions of dollars in weapons were truly going to “moderates,” they, not ISIS would be dominating the battlefield.

Recent revelations have revealed that as early as 2012 the United States Department of Defense not only anticipated the creation of a “Salafist Principality” straddling Syria and Iraq precisely where ISIS now exists, it welcomed it eagerly and contributed to the circumstances required to bring it about.”

In terms of foreign policy, the target with ISIS is still Syria, as Washington elites have expounded through their Brookings Institute discussion of June 24, a rebound from the failed attempt by John Kerry to drum up support for war with Syria that fell flat due to the exposure of the laughable false flag “chlorine attack” propaganda pinned on Assad.  Now ISIS is both the means and the raison d’etre for invading and saving Syria, in the classic problem-reaction-solution strategy the West never tires from enacting in the global “freedom” war.

beheadingfake

Acting far inferior to Peter O’Toole.

The endless, eternal war on terror is a contrived strategy of tension the Atlanticist establishment has used for over a hundred years, dating back to the exploits of Harry St. John Philby, T.E. Lawrence and the British carving up of the Middle East and special relationship with Saudi Arabia.  As mentioned, nothing has changed in the last century, other than the focal point of the terror attacks, as the Middle East must constantly be broken up, destabilized and reorganized into “micro-nations” more amenable to Washington’s corrupt corporate and ideological expansionist domination.  Recent so-called “terror events” are merely dots on the long timeline of terror, a scripted narrative designed to remodel the American landscape as much as the Middle East, according to D.C. think tank machinations.

Saudi Arabia, is of course one of the world’s chief funders of terror, operating as a proxy for the western elites.  Jordan, Qatar, the UAE, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait are all “Gulf Cooperation nations,” arising from the aegis of the British Empire, and adopted under the U.S. empire.  And what is constantly forgotten is the origin of this cadre’s alignment of the West through oil production was not merely the result of OPEC and Kissinger, it was in fact organized by Bilderberg: It was Bilderberg that organized the 70s OPEC oil debacle.  Isn’t it curious the GCC pro-terror states are also western-supplying oil states?  Citing William F. Engdahl in his A Century of War, Andrew Gavin Marshall writes:

“One enormous consequence of the ensuing 400 percent rise in OPEC oil prices was that investments of hundreds of millions of dollars by British Petroleum, Royal Dutch Shell [both present at Bilderberg] and other Anglo-American petroleum concerns in the risky North Sea could produce oil at a profit,” as “the profitability of these new North Sea oilfields was not at all secure until after the OPEC price rises.”  In 2001, the former Saudi representative to OPEC, Sheik Ahmed Yamani, said, “’I am 100 percent sure that the Americans were behind the increase in the price of oil. The oil companies were in real trouble at that time, they had borrowed a lot of money and they needed a high oil price to save them.” When he was sent by King Faisal to the Shah of Iran in 1974, the Shah said that it was Henry Kissinger who wanted a higher price for oil.” (136-7)

Heartland versus Rimland

In other words, war is a racket, as General Smedley Butler famously stated, and the new “War on Terror” (TM) of our day is not new, but an updated version of the old British strategy of staving off Russia.   Little has changed a century later, as the major power bloc of the West, the Atlanticists still charge forward according to the Mackinder Heartland doctrine that the western merchant/banking sea power must dominate and control the Eurasian “heartland” to ensure no Eastern rivalry.  Through the export of Opium, China was subjugated, and through export of Marxism, both China and Russia experienced the havoc of western-born ideological materialism.

It is precisely this same utilitarian Anglo-empiricist, pragmatist philosophy that has ultimately turned on its own populace in a parasitical fashion unheard of for past empires.  Promising sensual and economic utopia, the Bolshevik export to Russia on the part of the Atlantic banking power is not the top-down social engineering strategy of the corporate elite upon the U.S. population itself.  The great delusion is that the West is “free,” when it is entering the realm of greater enslavement than Sovietism experienced.  The only difference is the foolish western populace cannot grasp their enslavement is at the hands of Marxist corporations

The central banks, the Fortune 100 and their shareholders love cultural Marxism and command and control, socialist economic models because it is the quickest way to consolidate wealth and transfer the actually valuable assets to the controlling oligarchy.   In such a system, the opposition will inevitably all be titled “terrorists,” as the appellation is already being extended beyond radical Islamists.  And after it extends beyond the average person, the conditioning will be so strong that any thoughts, words, actions or potential-pre-crime actions will also follow under the elastic notion of “terror.”

Terrorism is thus a social weapon, not of indigenous, individual “actors” and lone wolves, but stage managed dupes, patsies and tools of an international oligarchical cartel, as Orwell demonstrated in 1984 with the fictional villain of Immanuel Goldstein.  Indeed, who funds these groups? (We saw who, above).  The most obvious fact of the contradiction of the “War on Terror” (TM) is that it almost always works to further Washington’s domestic and geopolitical aims.  Terror, then, is like Trotsky’s notion of perpetual war – perpetual war on the psyche of the globe (it’s a global war on terror), as a phase in the dialectical convergence on the path to global government.  That is why terrorism serves western political aims.

The Populist Cry For Glass-Steagall

by Guest Writer KRISTINA BRUCE | CLEARNFO.com | July 16, 2015

Kristie Bruce imageThe housing crash of 2008 wiped out over $6 trillion dollars in American assets and dropped household net worth by almost 40%.  Not only that but the banking debacle also cost an additional $26 trillion in bailouts and another $3.6 trillion in Quantitative Easing. The latter was to keep interest rates low in an attempt to jump-start housing sales. We’ve frequently seen mention of the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act (GS) as the mechanism which could have averted the banking crisis and it’s making headlines again as a bill originally introduced in 2013 by the unlikely duo of Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and John McCain (R-AZ). It seems the memories of the American public like goldfish aren’t very long because what’s old seems to be new again.

Was Glass-Steagal actually doing the job of protecting the public from the evils of retail and investment banks interconnectedness, collusion and risk taking when it was still in place? No it wasn’t. Enacted in 1933, by the time a portion of it, yes only a portion was repealed in 1999 with the passage of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, the banks had long been involved in the very same activities which are once again being blamed for creating the crisis. Pay no attention to the fact that GS regulation would have had no effect on the failures of Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, AIG, Fannie Mae nor Freddie Mac. Oh and please ignore the fact that in 2004 the SEC decided to raise banks debt-to-capital ratio from 12:1 to 30:1. Surely that had no effect on how much more risk they were able to take on. Right? No it was all Glass-Steagall the politicians proclaim!

The reality is that Glass-Steagall stopped doing anything to protect anybody at the very latest in the era of Harold Geneen and International Telephone and Telegraph Corp (ITT). Why this reference? Because that was sort of the most famous example of a wave of large mergers and acquisitions which certainly showed up in the finance sector around that time. It didn’t take nearly as long to recognize in the business sector how very destructive the way Geneen gobbled up companies into IT&T was, to form this weird conglomerate of unrelated businesses. Eventually it destroyed the core business and that is what people should keep in mind as we go down the rabbit hole. Hands in too many pies eventually lead to big mistakes and malinvestment.

The point of that example is to compare it to the reunification of the finance sector which began around the same time and it soon got to a point that commercial banks, investment banks and proprietary trading banks had no separation that could be overcome no matter what the goofball regulators did and we’re talking the 1970’s here! Forty years ago not; even in this century! It had been going on for so long that by 1999 it was argued Glass–Steagall was already “dead.” One of the latest incidents before GS was repealed was Citibank’s 1998 affiliation with Salomon Smith Barney, one of the largest US securities firms, was permitted under the Federal Reserve Board’s then existing interpretation of the Glass–Steagall Act. They just did whatever the hell they wanted to and they’ll do it again. It was not long after Citibank/SSB that Clinton publicly declared “the Glass–Steagall law is no longer appropriate.” All they did was once again codify illegal behavior by changing the law just as the current administration has codified all sorts of illegal acts through the National Defense Authorization Act, The Federal Grounds Protection Act, continually extending the Patriot Act, the Freedom Act and this horrid upcoming Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade agreement. They tell you that they’re protecting you then they change the law to benefit the banking corporate cartel and also strip you of your rights.

What’s more is that the politicians are being disingenuous and playing on the naiveté of the public when it comes to both their short memories and lack of attention as to how the banking industry works. In Warren’s opinion as stated in a New York Times article from 2012; when asked if GS had been in place at the time of the financial crisis if it would have averted it or reduced banking loses, her reply ;

“The answer is probably ‘No’ to both.”

Andrew Ross Sorkin who did the interview summed up Warren’s motives for pushing GS reinstatement at the time hit the nail on the head:

“In my conversation with Ms. Warren she told me that one of the reasons she’s been pushing reinstating Glass-Steagall — even if it wouldn’t have prevented the financial crisis — is that it is an easy issue for the public to understand and “you can build public attention behind.”

She added that she considers Glass-Steagall more of a symbol of what needs to happen to regulations than the specifics related to the act itself.”

Bingo! It resonates with the populace. It makes them feel as though someone is actually doing something even if it is meaningless. It’s pandering.

Is there more to this though? Is there possibly something here from which the banks might actually benefit? I think there is. Pandering alone is not usually motive enough for politicians like McCain who is so entrenched they’ll probably remove him from the senate in a body bag or Warren who has already become so popular that her political career is almost ensured for as long as she desires to remain in the senate.

What happens if the new and improved GS 2.0 is passed? Well within 5 years the retail banks will have to divest themselves of all activities deemed exclusive to investment banks and vice versa. In some cases the government will also reserve the right to force cessation of certain activities in an even shorter time frame where it feels there is imminent risk to the public.  That means a lot of shifting of business will have to be done in a very short matter of time. Do you reckon that retail banks are just going to hand over that portion of their business to investment banks and the investment banks will do so in kind? Not likely. On top of that, there are portions of assets each hold which neither would even want to dirty their hands with.

It is likely that toxic assets are becoming so burdensome and eminently destructive that the major banks would actually welcome a superficial break-up at this point. It would give them an opportunity to spin some of the absolutely worthless portions of the $1.2 QUADRILLION holdings of completely unregulated derivatives market. This of course would be shoveled into smaller entities which could later be allowed to implode and without implicating the parent companies. It would also give them plausible deniability for the offload if it was government mandated too!!!

They’ve got $TRILLION$ in bad derivatives bets which are going to eventually go sour no matter how much money they print and infuse the banks with. There’s a global economic slowdown and a currency devaluation war going on right now which ensures it’s going to happen at some point in the not too distant future. You bet your bottom dollar they’d love to get a huge portion of that off the books sooner than later! If they spin-off these toxic assets themselves everyone’s going to blame Goldman Sachs, Chase, HSBC and myriad other “too big to fails” for having done so. If government *snickering* “forces” them to become smaller, then the heat is off the parent entities when these bets do go bad for their spun-off children.

It doesn’t matter a whit if these banks create new separate entities to handle portions of business they will be precluded from engaging in. Most of what will be spun off are bets on junk and holdings in the grossly overvalued stock market; which is becoming more and more difficult to prop up, not just here in the U.S., but globally. The Chinese stock market was falling so precipitously that last week the government had to place stringent controls on selling by major holders for the next 6 months. They initiated discounts on transaction fees and decreased margin requirements to encourage buying. At the same time the NYSEX was halted for half a day which still is somewhat mysterious. At the same time the Euro zone is in a tremendous mess with Greece, which if it doesn’t go Germany’s way could set off a domino effect of similar defaults and send their markets into a tail spin. Doesn’t it seem awfully convenient that simultaneous to this all of the sudden, a 2-year-old bill which had been lost in the shuffle is suddenly in vogue again? The banks want to take out the trash and this is the perfect cover to do it under.

The general populist cry is understandable. The banks are robbing them blind and they want it to stop. The problem is that Glass-Steagall isn’t going to do much of anything other than give the banks an opportunity to stick it to them again. Say it publicly though and most folks’ hair bristles and spit flies out their mouths as they scream, “It’s better than nothing!” They want so badly to believe that some politician somewhere is doing something, ANYTHING on their behalf that when you gore the sacred ox of Glass-Steagall they lose all logic. The problem is that economics is a dismal science which even a goodly portion in the industry of trading and finance don’t fully understand. How are we to expect a public whose economic education on the subject generally amounts to the cumulative  sound bites they’ve heard on the evening news and a blurb or two from the likes of FOX News, MSNBC and their endless parade of bobble head commentators, to really have a grasp on what’s being proposed? At best it will do little to nothing. At worst it may be a Trojan Horse leaving another swath of destruction which the banking industry will casually walk away from relatively unscathed.

Note: The Glass-Steagall Act was enacted in 1933 to limit commercial bank securities activities and affiliations between commercial banks and securities firms.  In short it was a wall of separation between commercial and investment banking.  The 1999 repeal permitted Wall Street investment banking firms to gamble with their depositors’ money that was held in affiliated commercial banks.

Observations on Psychology

On the path to deeper insights into the workings of the mind…

The Mind according to David Brown

The Mind according to David Brown – click to enlarge

Now I’m no friend to psychology or psychiatry in their current incarnations; mostly because of their sorry histories and their current fraud posing as a science. I am for discovering truth that we can use productively, and I’m all for going out on a limb to discover new important information. If you want to know more on the evils of psychology and psychiatry, please see the following mental health watchdog site CCHR International.

Some basics:

oneConscious Mind: That part of the mind that is self-aware. Has quick and current memory that is easily accessed. If I ask you your name, you don’t have to go look it up or spend a lot of time trying to remember it.  If however I ask what you were doing last Wednesday at 2 p.m. you might remember or then again you might have to go look at your calendar or sit for a while until it magically came to you just exactly what you were doing. If I asked you what you were doing 10 years ago on Wednesday at 2 p.m. you might never be able to answer this unless it was a major event like a marriage, birth, graduation or funeral or if you kept meticulous notes in your diary. In any event the conscious mind is similar to the RAM in your computer. It is quick, readily accessible and limited to how many things it can hold at one time. Directly connected to the conscious Mind is the CPU or the processor that allows us to do simple logic and calculations much like our old trusty computer. So here we have a useful description of the conscious mind. It’s where we live. So the barrier between the conscious and the subconscious can be seen as a semipermeable membrane whose job it is to allow the conscious mind to focus and concentrate on the tasks at hand while the subconscious records everything verbatim and unprocessed by the analytical mind of the self-aware consciousness.

twoThe subconscious mind: collects all data available and records it mostly unprocessed, unorganized and verbatim. It is like a jungle of unorganized raw data including recordings of all five (5) senses, including spatial, positional information and emotions. It is separated from the conscious mind by a membrane to keep the clutter out of the way so that the conscious mind can focus on specific, limited tasks and just get shit done. There are many ways of accessing the contents of the subconscious mind.

Remembering (PULL); Storytelling (PUSH); Archetypes

Remembering (PULL); Storytelling (PUSH); Archetypes

One is through the effort of trying to remember something. This would be a pull action whereby you are pulling information from the subconscious into the conscious mind. Another is with storytelling.   Story telling uses archetypes which are able to penetrate the separation between the conscious and subconscious thus providing direct access to write (or push) information into the subconscious mind for a more permanent and meaningful memory.  See the Joseph Campbell video below on mythology, archetypes and storytelling.

Curtain (Membrane)

threeThe Semipermeable Membrane: provides the separation –think curtain– between the conscious and subconscious mind. This separation is a modern invention that allows modern man to focus on the tasks at hand and on the abstract using symbols, basic math and logic, etc. Without this separation the verbatim data recorded in the subconscious mind would flood into the conscious mind.

So let’s see if we can apply these basic concepts and discover some useful information. When we cut our finger, the physical body goes into action to isolate the injury to prevent infection or damage to the rest of the body while it uses its power to heal. There is a scab and then when the healing completes, there may be a scar, but the body has been preserved and protected. Likewise, when we sustain severe psychic damage, the mind goes into action to isolate the injury to prevent additional damage to the rest of the mind.   If the psychic damage is severe enough and if the human child is young enough the mind takes a snapshot of the entirety of the horrific insult, wraps it up enclosed in a hard case like a butterfly’s chrysalis and tucks it away somewhere in the deep recesses of the subconscious; hopefully never to be seen or heard from again.   These snapshots contain everything recorded including all five senses, feelings, etc. Later, these repressed, tucked-away memories may reveal themselves when a person experiences an irrational feeling to what most would consider a minor event. This event for some reason restimulates the emotional memory, the details of which have been forgotten or tucked away in the protective chrysalis.   If the child is under six years old and experiences substantial trauma, then there is great likelihood of splitting the personality into a separate partition which may arise years later when the right circumstances present themselves.  This separate personality may have a different voice, personality, handwriting, etc. And can be switched into the main console of the conscious mind while the normal conscious mind is switched off. This may cause a loss of time when the normal mind switches back into charge.  When there are multiple, time-separated severe psychic traumas, more splits to the personality can occur.  In these cases, there may be one personality that dominates or controls the others.  This personality will have its own name (Janie) and may even be referred to as an animal (Tiger).  In severely split personalities this dominate personality will attempt to reconstruct a new whole personality out of the desperate parts in a desperate attempt to maintain sanity.  This leads inevitably to a complete loss of what most of us think of as a self.  Deep psychic damage may also result in what is termed psychosomatic transfer  or illness wherein the psychic damage is converted into a physical aliment or pain.

EXAMPLE: A man is standing on a ladder when he suddenly falls injuring his leg and is knocked unconscious. While unconscious a nearby dog is barking.   Despite being unconscious, all this data is being recorded.  Years later, the man discovers that despite his leg healing, it still hurts at odd times. It turns out that when a dog is barking his leg starts to hurt, but he is unable to draw the connection.   Another example: A young girl is raped in a bathtub surrounded by small, pink tile.  The event is so horrific that this memory is wrapped up nice and neatly and tucked away into the deep recesses of her subconscious as a repressed memory. Later as an adult, her husband finds her irrational hatred for small, pink tile disturbing …  she has no idea why she despises small pink tile, but just has the urge to scratch it off the wall.

So we can see that despite the mind’s best attempt to protect itself, problems still exist only to rear their ugly head sometime in the future; sometimes causing irrational, painful and disturbing behavior apparently without explanation. These memories can have power over our lives. One way to deal with this power is to re-live these painful memories through the conscious mind so that they can be properly processed and then re-filed into the subconscious mind properly with full knowledge and analysis of the event. Freud explains this beautifully below. One caution is that if the semipermeable membrane is ever severely breached, the unprocessed jungle that is the subconscious can flood into the conscious mind causing psychosis which can be very dangerous to you and those around you.

It is common to refer to psychic injuries as being analogous to physical injuries: “There is still an open wound from when he or she betrayed me.” Or “I still need time to heal from my recent divorce before I start a new relationship.” So it makes sense to use those things familiar to us in the physical world to help describe what is going on in the emotional or psychic world. It makes for good communication where we can all understand what is going on.

Likewise, when Sigmund Freud explained the subconscious and its action of suppression at his second lecture of five on ‘The Origin and Development of Psycho-Analysis’ in 1910, he used common physical reference devices like a lecture hall and an unruly member of the audience to help communicate this novel idea…

Freud's Lecture Hall

Freud’s Lecture Hall

[10] Perhaps I may give you a more vivid picture of repression and of its necessary relation to resistance, by a rough analogy derived from our actual situation at the present moment. Let us suppose that in this lecture-room and among this audience, whose exemplary quiet and attentiveness I cannot sufficiently commend, there is nevertheless someone who is causing a disturbance and whose ill-mannered laughter, chattering, and shuffling with his feet are distracting my attention from my task. I have to announce that I cannot proceed with my lecture; and thereupon three or four of you who are strong men stand up and, after a short struggle, put the interrupter outside the door. So now he is ‘repressed’, and I can continue my lecture. But in order that the interruption shall not be repeated, in case the individual who has been expelled should try to enter the room once more, the gentlemen who have put my will into effect place their chairs up against the door and thus establish a ‘resistance’ after the repression has been accomplished. If you will now translate the two localities concerned into psychical terms as the ‘conscious’ and the ‘unconscious’, you will have before you a fairly good picture of the process of repression.

[13] Our most valuable lesson from Breuer’s observation was what it proved concerning the relation between symptoms and pathogenic experiences or psychical traumas, and we must not omit now to consider these discoveries from the standpoint of the theory of repression. At first sight it really seems impossible to trace a path from repression to the formation of symptoms. Instead of giving a complicated theoretical account, I will return here to the analogy which I employed earlier for my explanation of repression. If you come to think of it, the removal of the interrupter and the posting of the guardians at the door may not mean the end [1]of the story. It may very well be that the individual who has been expelled, and who has now become embittered and reckless, will cause us further trouble. It is true that he is no longer among us; we are free from his presence, from his insulting laughter and his sotto voce comments. But in some respects, nevertheless, the repression has been unsuccessful; for now he is making an intolerable exhibition of himself outside the room, and his shouting and banging on the door with his fists interfere with my lecture even more than his bad behaviour did before. In these circumstances we could not fail to be delighted if our respected president, Dr Stanley Hall, should be willing to assume the role of mediator and peacemaker. He would have a talk with the unruly person outside and would then come to us with a request that he should be re-admitted after all: he himself would guarantee that the man would now behave better. On Dr Hall’s authority we decide to lift the repression, and peace and quiet are restored. This presents what is really no bad picture of the physician’s task in the psychoanalytic treatment of the neuroses.

[14] To put the matter more directly. The investigation of hysterical patients and of other neurotics leads us to the conclusion that their repression of the idea to which the intolerable wish is attached has been a failure. It is true that they have driven it out of consciousness and out of memory and have apparently saved themselves a large amount of unpleasure. But the repressed wishful impulse continues to exist in the unconscious. It is on the look-out for an opportunity of being activated, and when that happens it succeeds in sending into consciousness a disguised and unrecognisable substitute for what has been repressed, and to this there soon become attached the same feelings of unpleasure which it was hoped had been saved by the repression. This substitute for the repressed idea – the symptom – is proof against further attacks from the defensive ego; and in place of the short conflict an ailment now appears which is not brought to an end by the passage of time. Alongside the indication of distortion in the symptom, we can trace in it the remains of some kind of indirect resemblance to the idea that was originally repressed. The paths along which the substitution was effected can be traced in the course of the patient’s psycho-analytic treatment; and in order to bring about recovery, the symptom must be led back along the same paths and once more turned into the repressed idea. If what was repressed is brought back again into conscious mental activity – a process which presupposes the overcoming of considerable resistances – the resulting psychical conflict, which the patient had tried to avoid, can, under the physician’s guidance, reach a better outcome than was offered by repression. There are a number of such opportune solutions, which may bring the conflict and the neurosis to a happy end, and which may in certain instances be combined. The patient’s personality may be convinced that it has been wrong in rejecting the pathogenic wish and may be led into accepting it wholly or in part; or the wish itself may be directed to a higher and consequently unobjectionable aim (this is what we call its ‘sublimation’); or the rejection of the wish may be recognised as a justifiable one, but the automatic and therefore inefficient mechanism of repression may be replaced by a condemning judgement with the help of the highest human mental functions – conscious control of the wish is attained.

Joseph Campbell demonstrates how story telling, myths and archetypes can communicate directly to the subconsciousness for more permanent and meaningful memories.
Joseph Campbell’s  The Power of Myth (1/7) – The Hero’s Adventure

The Power of Myth Notes:

Published on Jun 11, 2015

Joseph John Campbell (March 26, 1904 – October 30, 1987) was an American mythologist, writer and lecturer, best known for his work in comparative mythology and comparative religion. His work is vast, covering many aspects of the human experience. His philosophy is often summarized by his phrase: “Follow your bliss. While at Dartmouth College he studied biology and mathematics, but decided that he preferred the humanities. He transferred to Columbia University, where he received a BA in English literature in 1925 and an MA in Medieval literature in 1927. Campbell studied Old French, Provençal and Sanskrit at the University of Paris in France and the University of Munich in Germany. He learned to read and speak French and German. Campbell expressed a desire to pursue the study of Sanskrit and Modern Art in addition to Medieval literature. Campbell, the great chronicler of the ‘hero’s journey’ in mythology, recognized patterns that paralleled his own thinking in one of Ricketts’s unpublished philosophical essays. Echoes of Carl Jung, Robinson Jeffers and James Joyce can be found in the work of Steinbeck and Ricketts as well as Campbell In 1934 Campbell accepted a position as professor at Sarah Lawrence College. This year had a profound influence on his thinking about Asian religion and myth, and also on the necessity for teaching comparative mythology to a larger, non-academic audience. Campbell’s ideas regarding myth and its relation to the human psyche are dependent in part on the pioneering work of Sigmund Freud, but in particular on the work of Carl Jung, whose studies of human psychology greatly influenced Campbell. Campbell’s concept of monomyth (one myth) refers to the theory that sees all mythic narratives as variations of a single great story. The theory is based on the observation that a common pattern exists beneath the narrative elements of most great myths, regardless of their origin or time of creation. Campbell often referred to the ideas of Adolf Bastian and his distinction between what he called “folk” and “elementary” ideas, the latter referring to the prime matter of monomyth while the former to the multitude of local forms the myth takes in order to remain an up-to-date carrier of sacred meanings. A Hero’s Journey, he explains God in terms of a metaphor: God is a metaphor for a mystery that absolutely transcends all human categories of thought, even the categories of being and non-being.

Geopolitics 101:

by DAVID BROWN | CLEARNFO.com | July 14, 2015

Building a New World Order

Building a New World Order

The idea behind ‘Anglo-American‘ Geopolitics is to remove the concept of the ‘nation-state’ and replace it with global governance: a single point of control. To do this, our masters need to fuse 1) the North American Union; 2) the Trans-Pacific Partnership, and 3) the European Union (EU) into one organization. Monies from carbon taxes will help support this governing bureaucracy — ergo the need for man-made global warming. They still need China, Russia, Iran and some other stragglers to join the club of one. Libya, Syria and many others have been dealt with. Ukraine is being used to draw Russia into making the mistake of attacking. To accomplish this grand scheme, they need a major global crisis to bring everyone to heal so that they can save the world from the problems they created.
